The OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) provides businesses, charities, and public authorities with a government-backed contribution of 75% of the cost of purchasing and installing EV chargepoints - up to £350 per socket.
Grant renamed, not removed. The OLEV grant was rebranded in 2022 as the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant when the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) became the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). The scheme is still active - the name is the only thing that changed.
What is the Workplace Charging Scheme?
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based government grant administered by OZEV that reduces the upfront cost of installing EV chargepoints at business premises. The scheme covers 75% of the total purchase and installation cost, capped at £350 per socket, with a maximum of 40 sockets per applicant - a potential total saving of up to £14,000. It is open to businesses, charities, and public authorities across the UK.
Who is eligible?
Your organisation must meet OZEV's eligibility criteria to apply. Eligible applicants include:
- Private businesses with dedicated off-street parking for staff or fleet vehicles
- Registered charities with suitable parking facilities
- Public sector bodies and local authorities
- NHS trusts and other healthcare organisations
- Small accommodation businesses such as hotels, B&Bs, and holiday lets with parking for guests
You must also use an OZEV-authorised installer. The installation must not have started before you apply - the voucher must be in place first.
How much can you claim?
The WCS contributes up to £350 per socket, covering 75% of purchase and installation costs up to that cap. With a maximum of 40 sockets per applicant, the maximum total grant value is £14,000. For a typical 7kW workplace charger costing £900–£1,400 installed, the grant brings the net cost per socket down to £550–£1,050 or less, depending on your specific installation.
How to apply
Applications are made through the OZEV online portal before installation begins - you cannot claim retrospectively. Once approved, your OZEV-authorised installer claims the grant value directly and deducts it from the invoice, so you pay the net amount only. We work exclusively with OZEV-authorised installers who handle the application and paperwork on your behalf, so you are not navigating the portal alone.
