Install EV chargers at your business premises and claim government grant funding under the Workplace Charging Scheme. Here is what you need to know.

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme is a government-backed grant that helps businesses, charities, and public authorities cover the cost of purchasing and installing EV chargepoints. The scheme provides a contribution of 75% of the total cost of purchasing and installing EV chargepoints, capped at £350 per socket, up to a maximum of 40 sockets per applicant.

Who qualifies?

To be eligible for the Workplace Charging Scheme, your organisation must:

  • Be a registered business, charity, or public sector organisation in the UK
  • Have dedicated off-street parking for staff or fleet vehicles
  • Not have previously received the maximum grant allowance under the scheme
  • Use an OZEV-authorised installer

How the grant works

The grant is applied at the point of installation - your OZEV-authorised installer claims the grant directly and deducts it from the cost you pay. You do not need to claim it separately. A standard 7kW workplace charger socket, including installation, typically costs between £800 and £1,400 before the grant. After the grant contribution of up to £350, the net cost to you is significantly lower.

What types of charger are eligible?

The scheme covers the supply and installation of smart chargepoints that meet the OZEV technical specification. Most modern 7kW and 22kW wall-mounted chargers from established manufacturers qualify. Your installer will confirm which models are eligible and recommend the right option for your site.
